The blogiest links I could find
19 September 2007
I generally avoid writing link posts but I have been busy with finalising the development of the new tools for blogs.com.au as well as finding and adding hundreds of new blogs (on September 10 we passed the 3000 Australian blogs mark in our search index and now have 3372 listed. Yay!). But with a whole heap of blog news items backing up in my drafts folder I have resorted to the laziest blog post genre known to man. Enjoy!
- John Lampard laments that finding a good web host for your blog can be a tough task.
- Jacques Chester has an in depth look at the interests of the many users of blog software.
- Laurel Papworth reviews last week’s Blogging is as Useful as Talkback Radio debate with a sensational post.
- Plans are underway for a WordCamp Melbourne event organised by James Farmer. I can say that 30% of the blogs listed here at blogs.com.au are powered by WordPress so it should be popular.
- Tom Worthington gives a review of a talk by crikey.com.au’s Stephen Mayne about Online journalism and its impact on traditional media.
- The Bulletin magazine launch The Bullring. An actual proper real life group blog. Bit of a shock to cynical me. Bloggers include Ellen Fanning, Paul Daley as well as the recently sacked Jack Marx among others.

Looks like John Lampard is still having trouble - his permalinks are busted.
Ta for the linkback. The post made nary a ripple when it first went out but it seems to be gathering momentum all by itself.
Thanks for the shout out Anthony
I am actually moving web hosts as I write this so accessing my site my be a little tricky for the next day or two (or how ever long DNS takes to resolve!)
Hi Jacques. It is a great post. Was going to write something about it when you originally published it at the start of September but have been behind on everything.
Hi John. One of the reasons your old host was no good was because it was an ISP that did hosting on the side. You have to host with a company that have their support staff and monitoring systems focused on web hosting only. Was going to email this but have been crazily busy. Also, most ISP’s do instant DNS updates now days so the ye olden day waiting the 72 hours for propagation to occur is a thing of the past. 5 minutes after you switch the name servers at your domain name registrar it should work fine at the new host.
Well, don’t hesitate to talk about it now. I’m still looking for people’s feedback on it. Just because it’s on the internet doesn’t mean it goes off like milk.
Dear, you can write all the “link posts” you like, as long as I am on them, of course.
Heh, actually the DNS did change over very quickly in the end, in an hour or so, as you say. The new host had warned me it could take up to 72 hours though
In fact when it came to moving the site, the old host suddenly became very co-operative, and organised everything I needed very quickly… I think they just wanted to get rid of me!!
All confirmed now: http://melbourne.wordcamp.org/
Thanks for the encouragement.. do you reckon we might see you there? Running a session perhaps
